Huda Beauty Lip Contour and Liquid Matte Lipsticks | Review and Swatches

Saturday, November 19, 2016

So I was finally able to get my hands on all things Huda Beauty when I was in Saudi, you best believe I went crazy swatching and even picking lashes lol
I knew it was a brand a definitely wanted to check out especially when the hype was just not dying down.
By the way I have a lip swatch video, of all the lip products listed - so check it out to see it all in action (down below).

I won't talk a lot on lashes because I want to focus on the lip contours and liquid matte lipsticks in this post. But, I will say I got 3 pairs and oh my word they're so prettyyyyy!
I picked up best seller 'Samantha', next I chose 'Lana' and finally mink lashes in 'Sophia' which have to be my favourite. Hands down they feel so fluffy, they are of high quality and not just the packaging but finally I think they really do a bring a look together.

Now on to why you're reading this post, the new lip contours and liquid matte lipsticks...well not new new but you get what I mean.
I picked up 3 from each and I took my time swatching in Sephora and really I did not want to rush. I did however notice how affordable they are that side of the world which is also the reason I bought 6 all together!

- LIP CONTOURS -

TROPHY WIFE

From the shades I swatched I loved this shade and I love it even more now that I've worn it. It's not drying, it's creamy in formula which flows beautifully all over the lip and it lasts a really long time. It has a beautiful mauve pink colour not to bright yet not so subtle, so just up my alley.

VIXEN

The colour is amazing! I love that it was a deep red as compared to cheerleader. However I didn't feel it flowed so well or was as creamy as Trophy Wife. It did fade a bit towards the inside of my bottom lip and I did have to go over it to even out the colour all over.

FAMOUS

This was a shade I got in the liquid matte lipstick as well. I found between both the lip contour wore much better over the entire lip than the liquid matte lipstick in the shade did. It was a bit drying as well how it was also creamy so I didn't feel it tugged on my lips as much as vixen did.

- LIQUID MATTE LIPSTICKS -

TRENDSETTER

I knew there was a few shades I had my eye on from the start, but when I started swatching I noticed they either didn't match me so well or I just didn't like them. I have very pink lips which means finding a good nude colour for my lips is very hard at times, either it washes me out or its not a true nude. When I swatched trendsetter I knew I had to get it, the nude was perfect for my lip colour and skin tone. It wears beautifully, it's not drying, does not bleed easily and it stays all day!!!

SPICE GIRL

I wasn't planning on getting this specific shade but when I swatched it oh my word I loved it instantly. I'd say it's a cool tone brown and its perfect. I didn't think it would suit me or would look weird but from all the shades in the liquid matte lipstick range I'd say its my #1. It's another shade that wears so beautifully, doesn't fade, the application was consistent and it was not drying.

FAMOUS

Like I said I got this shade in the lip contour as well. Between the both I find this did not wear nicely at all! I don't know if it was the formula or what but I struggled with this one. You can make it work, but I find it does take effort. It bleeds very easily and because it's so pigmented it stains which makes everything quite messy. I love the colour but I find that it was the most drying out of all 6 shades and I felt my lips needed some TLC after removing it.

- FINAL THOUGHT -

Overall I think Huda Beauty really is good quality,
from the packaging to even the formula.
Only the 2 shades from the 6 were difficult to work with.
I think the darker shades have been an issue compared to the lighter shades which are AMAZING!
The liquid matte lipsticks dry super quickly,
so if you have any of the dark shades be careful to apply them properly or you will have a tough time.

A quick tip before and after using liquid lipsticks no matter what the brand,
is to EXFOLIATE!
Use a home-made sugar scrub on your lips or use the sugar lip-scrub from Lush.
This will keep your lips soft before and after wearing a liquid matte lipstick.

This was a very requested post and finally I got around to posting it.
I had to test them a lot to make sure if it wasn't just my experience making the swatch video that made trying all the shades one after the other that make it difficult to apply the dark shades.
However, I noticed they were hard to work with but not impossible.

If you would like to see any more reviews, videos or more please feel free to send me a message.
Also any questions I'd be happy to answer them.

  1. Now I understand the reason for the hype over Huda Beauty products. All the colours you've picked suit you. I couldn't agree more with exfoliating your lips before using matte lipsticks.

    1. With high end products you have to be very careful otherwise you may loose money like that. Never just buy into the hype even if you love the brand, always be careful. Exfoliating lips is a huge life saver!!! Especially with liquid lipsticks, they tend to be very drying.

  2. Thank you for the exfoliating tip! I have one matte lipstick (I am not a makeup person lol) I usually have one thing at a time and only purchase something different when I'm done with one, but I had no idea you need to exfoliate first! I'm going to try that tomorrow before I wear it!

    1. Haha you need to! Another quick tip is to actually use your tooth brush and literally brush your lips. It removes the dead skin and makes your lips soft. So when you wear any lipstick especially matte it would crush up and look/feel weird.

  3. These beauty products look really good. I have heard a lot about Huda beauty but never tried any of their products yet.

    1. I will say they are good quality products but every product works different for everyone so if it's pricey always be careful.

  5. Thank you for your candid review of these products. Huda Beauty is all over social media right now, so it's great to get an unbiased opinion. I hope you'll be doing a blog post about the lashes too!

    1. I will do a post on their lashes, but from using them I can say quickly they are very amazing! If you have small eyes or small eye lid space the lashes will be your entire eye look because they are very dramatic. But the quality is amazing!

  6. Huda has really come a long way with her brand and products in the UAE and elsewhere. Love the shades you got. :-)

    1. Her story is very inspiring! How she started to where she is now, Insha-Allah may all our hard work pay off and may we be as successful as well. I love how shes slowly expanding, but I will say her quick realising of so many products is not a good move. When she released her lashes, because she was only focused on them they're amazing. With the quick release of lip contours to liquid mattes lipsticks and now the eye shadow palette. The formulas haven't been consistent and so are the reviews that's why I think she should take it slowly and not rush to release so much because that's when bad things happen/

    1. It does always depend what suits you best and everything works differently for everyone. I wish I got Trophy Wife in the liquid matte lipstick, because it is definitely my favourite.

  8. Such pretty colours! I like the tip about exfoliating before using a matte lipstick. The worst is having dry lips below a stunning matte lip colour!

    1. Especially when you're out and about, you cannot keep checking if it looks okay and it feels so uncomfortable. Exfoliating is a HUGE life saver, before and after using a liquid lipstick.
