When I mentioned this topic to some of my friends and my sister they literally all said the same thing "how did you get rid of your acne scars!?"
lol I told them to wait for me to publish the post to find out.
Most people if not all suffer with acne at one point in their life,
after over coming the initial obstacle you still have to deal with the scars it leaves behind.

I'm not going to go into detail about my acne and accutane journey in this post, however if you would like to know more about what I learn't through out the years experiences and experimentation than let me know. Just a quick run down there are many types of acne, many reasons they occur, many types of methods to heal the acne and also different types of pigmentation. Educating yourself on the type of acne and pigmentation you have is the 'major key' to getting rid of it. Remember everyone's skin is different, same acne/pigmentation does not mean the same methods will work for you.

Now I have what I call stubborn skin lol no method works for long, my skin gets use to the treatment and starts to rebel and also light treatments don't work. On that note I have said this countless of times skin care is super important, I cannot emphasis that enough. I also don't like to go the chemical/medical route when it comes to treatment, I like to go as natural as possible and if I go with products of the shelf they should be as natural as it can get. I feel its best to go the natural route when it comes to treatments especially if you wear makeup, you skin needs to breathe and shouldn't heal with more chemicals.

Now after accutane alhamdulillah (Praise to Allah) I haven't got any acne since, I do get around my period but it's not as bad as it was and it doesn't leave any scars. I also know I have a small speech above going the natural route with treatments and accutane is far from natural. It was my last resort, I had tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked so my dermatologist suggested me trying accutane. But being on accutane did not mean my scars disappeared as well. I'm sure everyone who has had acne has heard "don't touch it, it will leave a scar" as much as this is true it also just depends on what acne you do have. I was was never the type to touch my pimples, I would never pick on it or obsess over them yet it still left red marks on my face that were extremely hard to conceal as well as to get rid of! That is cystic acne for you, they will always leave scars whether you touch it or you don't (this is NOT a pass to touch your pimples though!) Thankfully most of my scars were just on the surface, but if you do irritate your pimples the scars will be darker and more deep set so again DO NOT TOUCH!

Majority of my acne scars were on my cheeks, after countless of home made treatments, facials, scrubs to creams I found only 3 methods I stand by today and sometimes still use which slowly helped my scars fade away. I don't use this in any particular order, like I said my skin doesn't like routine. I will say I did include these 3 methods a few times a week beside my other facials and night routines when I started out and my marks where more visible and intense. Now when there's just a few stubborn ones on my cheeks that don't want to part with me I do it every once every 2 weeks.

Time to bring your kitchen to the bathroom lol I love home made facials and scrubs. They work just as amazing as a fancy product you bought but it's all natural which gives your face instant TLC.

4 TB Raw/Natural Honey
2 TB Oats
1 tsp Olive Oil/Coconut oil (if you have dry skin)

  • I usually wear the sticky mask and keep it till it is completely dry before washing it off with cold water.
  • Don't be alarmed if your face starts tingling lol that's okay, unless it starts burning beyond normal you should be okay.
  • Honey is known for it's endless healing properties and it really does heal acne and get rid of acne scars.
  • You can just use honey on it's own just on the acne or pigmentation, try to get it as raw or natural as possible for the best results.
  • Honey and oatmeal mask is also known as a brightening mask so that's another perk to the facial.

LEMON JUICE & BAKING POWDER FACIAL

I was doing foaming facials before they became a thing lol Okay don't be alarmed at the image of your face burning off that won't happen! I will say if you know you have sensitive skin might want to leave out the baking powder from this and not keep the lemon juice on for so long. But if you stubborn skin like I do this will really kick it up a notch. Also note I said baking powder NOT baking soda. If you have sensitive skin baking soda with water will work but if you have a stubborn skin baking powder is the way to go.

2 tsp Baking Powder

  • BE QUICK!
  • Keep the freshly squeezed lemon juice ready and only mix it in the bathroom.
  • I will say this should be the last step before toner and moisturiser because you will be washing it off with cold water.
  • Mix it and quickly apply it as it's bubbling to your face, yes it will sting but that's okay.
  • Apply first to the problem areas, you can apply it all over your face if you want but it's not a must.
  • Leave it on for around 5 minutes till it dries a bit. Wash off with cold water lol trust me you will need it. Next apply toner and than moisturiser or facial oil.
  • I don't know the reason why it works it just does, the lemon juice really helps lightens marks and so does the baking powder or baking soda.

MICRO NEEDLE DERMA-ROLLER

The method of micro-needling is established for several years as a gentle and safe method for skin tightening, improving skin texture and scar therapy. Look at me I sound like a text book, anyway this is another skincare product and new step I started a long time ago, actually even before I went on accutane. It took a lot of trial and error to really find the right way for this to help. It's weird too little and it doesn't help, too much and it can make your skin start flaking in a bad way.

The derma-roller hit a real hype in the beauty world, honestly Huda Beauty brought it to my attention and after some research I decided to get it a shot. Now it's widely available unlike when I bought it 2 years back. You can purchase it on ebay like I did, also sold on the swiitchbeauty and mystique beauty websites.

  • The one I bought came in a case which you should look for when you want to purchase it, for sanitary purposes.
  • Keep it clean because it is needles so you don't want to get an infection or more acne due to the bacteria.
  • Also make sure you skin is clean before using it, I personally use it before my moistourisr at night.
  • After my face is clean I roll the derma droller on my face over my scars, DO NOT USE ON PIMPLES!
  • Apply a some pressure, not a heavy hand and don't be afraid of the needles it won't hurt it's just prickly.
  • Go back and forth over the scars for a minute, you will feel your skin get a bit warm and even turn red and that is okay.
  • Be careful not to over do it once you start to turn red stop you don't want to make yourself bleed.
  • Next apply a very hydrating moistouriser (lately I have been lovely the Drops of Youth Cream from The Body Shop).

The needle sizes are all different, your size will depend on the scar and where. Yes that is right you don't only have to use it on the face but for the face a small size is recommended. Maximum 1.5mm or if you really want to push it 2mm. Personally doing this twice a week at night is more than enough. If you use it every night it can be a big mistake trust me. I did that when I started using it and didn't put on moistouriser after and my skin started flaking on my cheeks! That was a nightmare lol
I learn't my lesson so I now use it 2 times a week...not religiously I do slack at times and I always put a face cream right after! If your scars are a bit deep and your skin starts to peel stop derma rolling till it heals and keep putting on cream, that is how mine began to heal.

Remember to ice when you're done, this will tighten your pores and also get rid of the redness.

So far I am left with just a little bit of red pigmentation on my cheeks that just won't fade and that's okay. It is slowly healing but basically the first scars take the longest to heal so patience and constancy with trying to heal the scars is key.

Remember always try different things but also leave some time to see results
consistency is key so don't jump from treatment to treatment.
Also don't forget to do research on the scars and acne you may have
and try to get a professional opinion just to be sure.
I hope this post helps as many people out there,
going natural doesn't guarantee instant results but
it is the healthiest way to go especially when getting rid of marks.

"Beauty is not only for the surface but skin deep and that is what matters.
Whatever you are blessed with don't take it as bad.
Everyone suffers with insecurities so if you have acne or scars don't feel bad.
Smile because you are beautiful and unique!"

  2. In my teens, I had to search for my forehead amidst minute pimples. Later, I had acne on cheeks. I wish I had known this then.
Back then I wore sandalwood paste. Alhamdhulillah, I didn't end up with any long term marks.

    1. I love sandalwood mask, recommend that as well. Better to take care of acne and the marks before they go deeper, otherwise it will be harder to heal.

    1. Sandalwood mask is an amazing mask, not only does your skin smell amazing but it's great for acne and scars. If you ever do get acne always check for 'acne face mapping' it will help you internally combat your acne.
